Are you paying attention?

Adapted from the Discipleship Journal.
Sometimes we anticipate to have a good quality time with our friend, rich and inspiring like always, but after meeting the friend, we realise that it was far from what we expected. Did our friendship change?I wonder about that too sometimes.

Here is what I learnt.Paying attention is the key to building life-giving relationships.Do we give enough attention to the people who are talking to us or do we get distracted by other things and wonder what we want to say next after our friend completed their sentence?

We all want to be noticed, to have our feelings, our longlings and our hearts acknowledged. Notice that Jesus always paid attention. When Jesus spoke to people individually, I believe that each of them felt like they were the only person in the world. Jesus noticed what others missed. Jesus saw the value of the person, so much so that He gave His complete attention to him.Our inattentiveness can imply that we see little worth in a person.

2 questions to think about: Are we paying enough attention to our close friends? It is easy to neglect the people who matter most to us. Second, are we paying enough attention to the One who given His All to us?
